Hundreds of new electric vehicle charging stations will be built in "prime locations" in Delhi by June 27, of which 71 will be in metro stations, Electricity Minister Satyendar Jain said on Monday. At a press conference here, he said the fee to use the station facilities would be "Rs 2 per station", which he claimed would be "the lowest in the country".
“Our electric vehicle policy envisages a charging station every 3 kilometers in the city. The tender is for 100 (electric vehicle) charging stations.
The minister said the bids were selected on the basis of the minimum service charge, and among the 12 bidders, the service charge to be charged had been determined to be a "negative" value.
Jain added that the agreements will be signed on April 8 and will be implemented by June 27.
Dialogue and Development Council (DDC) vice-chairman Jasmine Shah said the city currently has about 400 charging stations, owned by the government and private companies.
"Now, with 500 charging points, that number will more than double very quickly," he said.
Shah also said the 100 locations were selected in the nation's capital based on "scientific" surveys and catered to "underserved areas".
